Academic Assessments
The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) has been contacted by a few school districts regarding academic assessments in the wake of flooding. MDE will work closely with officials from impacted districts to provide needed flexibility and assistance.
Reduced Number of School Days Due to Flooding
The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) has received some questions from school officials about adjustments in school calendars due to flooding.
There is no provision in state law that calls for a reduction in state aid if a district does not provide instruction to students for a certain number of days.
Under state law, local school boards set the school calendar and determine whether canceled days should be made up at a later date.
In order to ensure that MDE is able to accurately calculate a district’s Average Daily Membership, we also encourage districts that do adjust their calendars to report this information to the MDE.
